Funding	This position is locally funded.
Salary is determined on directly related experience supported by a service record or experience affidavit.  Annualized pay may be pro-rated based on actual start date.  This position is non-stipend eligible.

 

Position Summary

 

The Educational Diagnostician performs comprehensive evaluations for students referred for special education, ensuring compliance with both state and local eligibility requirements. Serves as a liaison and case manager, facilitating communication and collaboration among educators, families, students, district personnel, and community agencies. Assists in the development and planning of school-based programs as needed.

 

Minimum Requirements  

• Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• State Board of Educator Certification as Educational Diagnostician.
• Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.

Preferred Qualifications  

• 5+ years progressive experience as an educational diagnostician or related function.  

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities  

• Ability to administer and interpret intelligence and achievement assessment instruments.
• Knowledge of various special education eligibility conditions and the challenges to learning.
• Knowledge of local, state, and federal rules and regulations pertaining to special education.
• Ability to prepare appropriate individual education plans (IEPs).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, to include written and verbal skills and the ability to work cooperatively with individuals, and the ability to resolve conflicts.
• Ability to conduct all activities in accordance with the highest ethical standards.

• Proficient in Google Drive and Google programs (Docs, Sheets, Forms, and Slides).
• Daily attendance at work and punctuality are essential functions of the job.

Essential Functions/Key Responsibilities  

• Applies advanced subject matter expertise to support school staff through the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) process. Provides consultative guidance on classroom-based strategies and interventions designed to assist students experiencing academic or behavioral challenges. Advises on the effective implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), accommodations, modifications, and instructional strategies, exercising professional judgment and autonomy.
• Manages a caseload of varying complexity to ensure timely completion of evaluations, participation in ARD/IEP committee meetings, and delivery of student services, maintaining compliance with all applicable timelines and regulations.
• Designs, develops, and evaluates instructional programs for special education. Participates in the selection and implementation of specialized instructional materials and resources.
• Plans, organizes, and facilitates both district-wide and campus-level events and initiatives related to special education services.
• Administers standardized achievement and intelligence assessments using approved tools and methodologies. Compiles and presents comprehensive evaluation reports.
• Contributes to Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) committee meetings by interpreting assessment results and assisting in the formulation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
• Assists in the development and review of district special education policies and procedures and communicates updates and changes to relevant stakeholders. 
• Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy.
• Comply with all district routines and regulations.
• Maintain confidentiality of all information.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals.

Posture: Frequent walking, standing, Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.

Motion: Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse. Occasional reaching. 

Lifting: Lifting and carrying 10-25 pounds frequently, 25-40 pounds occasionally, more than 45 pounds infrequently with assistance; Pushing/pulling 10-35 pounds sporadically.

Environment: Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise. May be required under specific circumstances to provide physical restraint of students in danger of causing harm to themselves or others. Frequent districtwide and occasional statewide travel.

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions and prolonged or irregular hours.
