Position Summary
Supervise students assigned to in-school suspension (ISS) for disciplinary reasons. Maintain a highly structured and orderly environment. Work under the general supervision of the principal and immediate direction of a certified teacher daily.

 

Required Documents - Must be uploaded with application

1) Resume with work experience listed.  Include months/years worked, company, title, and brief description of duties.

2) School transcript.

3) If required, proof of passing score from paraeducator course listed below.

 

Education

Must have one of the following educational requirements:

a. Associates degree or higher from an accredited college/university.

b. Minimum of forty-eight (48) semester college hours from an accredited college/university.

c. High school diploma or GED equivalent recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency AND completion of the paraeducator training course provided by Stedi.org with a passing score of 70% or higher ($19.95 fee responsibility of applicant) or Treasuring Our Paraprofessionals certificate through Region XX (fees responsibility of applicant).

 

Certification

a. Eligible to obtain a paraprofessional certificate issued by the State Board of Educator Certification

    **Valid Educational Aide III certification (SEE BELOW, GRADES 9-12 ONLY)**

b. Valid CDA (Child Development Associate) credential within two (2) years of employment for the assignment

c. Successful outcome of fingerprinting background check

**Note: An Educational Aide III certificate is required for aides assigned to a setting where students grades 9–12 are assigned for less than six weeks. A valid Texas teaching certificate is required when students in grades 9–12 are assigned more than six weeks. 

 

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Ability to work well with children
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to use a personal computer

Major Responsibilities and Duties
Instructional Support

  1. Work with certified teachers and campus administrators to create and maintain an orderly and highly structured classroom environment.
  2. Work with individual students to complete assignments given by the classroom teacher.
  3. Consult classroom teachers regarding student assignments.
  4. Distribute, collect, and check student assignments for accuracy.
  5. Maintain individual files of completed student assignments and return them to classroom teachers.

Student Management

  1. Manage student behavior and administer discipline according to board policies, administrative regulations, and Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  2. Record student attendance and discipline referrals according to established procedures.
  3. Supervise students assigned to ISS during lunch and bathroom breaks.

Other

  1. Maintain confidentiality.
  2. When required, participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events.
  3. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment

Posture: Moderate standing; occasional kneeling, squatting, bending, and stooping

Motion: Moderate walking

Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15)

Environment: Work inside; may work outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
